Vespa Lexington

Since opening the doors to Vespa Lexington we have had a lot of curious customers come through the door. Curious meaning, people that are interested in owning a scooter but have never ridden a two or three wheel motorized mode of transportation. There are so many benefits to owning and riding a scooter; great gas mileage (60-85 mpg), low emissions, freedom, fun, going green, etc. Maybe people are just getting lonely and tired of hearing their own echo inside their 11 mpg Cadillac stretched Escalade, lots of empty and unused space in those bad boys.

All of our Vespa and Piaggio scooters are very easy to ride. No clutches, no foot brakes, everything is just a twist n go automatic. Just turn a key, and fire it up. While our scooters are super fun, and easy to ride, they are not a toy. To all new or potential customers we highly recommend you take the The Motorcycle Safety Foundation, basic riding course. Michael (one of the Vespa Lexington owners) actually took the class before he got into scootering and found it to be very beneficial, informative, and well worth the money. He feels it should be a required course to take. I think the class cost about $125 to take, but once the class is completed you don’t have to take the driving test when getting your motorcycle license, and you get a nice break on your insurance. It’s definitely a win win for the novice scooterist.

In the central Kentucky area there are two classes offered, one in Richmond and one in Georgetown. You can call the Georgetown class at 859.485.2925, and the Richmond class at 859.622.2236. I think it’s pretty cool. Apparently the dynamic acting duo/couple of Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber think it’s pretty cool, and they even had some paparazzi take a few photos of them riding their Vespa around in Soho.

While thumbing through the newest issue of GQ Magazine (the one with a naked Jennifer Aniston on the cover), I came across an illustration of Wes Anderson leaning up against a Vespa. If your not aware of who Wes Anderson is, he makes radical movies. He is the guy responsible for instant classics like : Bottle Rocket, Darjeeling Limited, Rushmore, and The Royal Tenenbaums. 

Being BIG fans of the Vespa scooters, and being BIG fans of Wes Anderson movies, we heart the combination. BTW Criterion just released a special edition dvd and blu-ray of Anderson’s Bottle Rocket. Also check out one of my favorite scenes from a Wes Anderson films after the jump.

I (Whit) love me some coffee. Pretty much drink it all day, from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed. We have yet to buy a coffee machine for Vespa Lexington, but luckily we are in walking distance to the Coffee Times Coffee House. Prior to opening Vespa Lexington, the last time I visited Coffee Times Coffee House was probably in high school. It’s probably fate that brought us back together because hands down they have the best coffee in Lexington and like I said I love me some coffee.

The funny thing is, I go in every morning and get me a large coffee. With the large coffee comes free refills, so throughout the day I take frequent trips (maybe 4 or 5) to the Coffee Times to get my refills. Every time I go in there is a new employee working the coffee counter. I walk in with my empty cup and walk out with a full one. I started getting the feeling like the employees were thinking I had been using the same cup since day one (and not ever buying anything), and then several of the employees started asking me if I had purchased a new cup that day. One of them even told me that they were on the look out for a guy that was coming in, getting a cup of coffee but never purchases anything.

I am pretty sure that guy they are looking for is me. I am the Vespa Lexington Coffee Bandit.
