This morning the temperatures in Lexington hit a negative 2 degree’s. That’s pretty darn cold, coldest it’s been here in Kentucky for a long long time. We have actually been waiting for a super cold day, so we could try and add an entry into the 2StrokeBuzz COLD WEATHER CHALLENGE. The cold weather challenge is basically a contest to see who can ride a 2 wheeled motorized vehicle (scooter) in the coldest of conditions. Joking around with Michael, I told him I would give the challenge a go in shorts in a t shirt. As usual I did not read the full list of rules stating that you had to ride a minimum of 10 miles in order to qualify, and there is no way I would even attempt to ride a Vespa when the temperature out is 0 degree’s with a wind chill of negative 18 degree’s. Keeping my word I did take a short ride on a Vespa GTS 250 in shorts and a t shirt (like an idiot). It was cold, but with inspiration from Jack Bauer I was able make the ride!
Still wanting to throw an entry into the 2StrokeBuzz Cold Weather Challenge, I was able talk my homie Michael into giving it a go and try the 10 mile ride in the freezing cold. Like I said it was 0 degree’s out with a negative 17 degree windchill. Michael put on every bit of cold weather Corazzo gear he could get his hands on, and hit the road. He kind of looked like Boba Fett from Star Wars. Michael gave it his best, but was only able to ride like 7 miles before the windshield in his helmet started fogging and freezing up making it impossible for him to see. Being a big wuss, he made a pit stop to defog and warm up before heading back to the shop with his head hung low in disgrace. Michael was soooo cold and thought his fingers were going to fall off, we had to wrap him in a rug and pour hot coffee all over him.

It’s been a pretty cold day in Kentucky. I just read that Fayette County even cancelled school tomorrow because of the cold weather. That sounds a little extreme to me, but oh well Kentucky is just extreme. Due to the cold weather Vespa Lexington has been a little slow today(Don’t forget we got a free extended warranty and $0Dwn/$0Paymnets/0Interest for 6 months). That hasn’t stopped Michael from staying busy. Michael built this bad boy today:

We have had a ton of compliments on the Rocketworld prints we have hanging on the wall of Vespa Lexington. I got turned on to Rocketworld from one of my all time favorite sites Notcot, through Notcot’s holiday gift guide they were running last month. Rocketworld makes these really cool toys, prints, and a few items of clothing. I really dig the little animals riding Vespa’s carrying assault rifles, and I also dig their mod bear claw logo. Check the prints out below, and I included a image of one of their very cool toys. We will probably buy a few toys from them in the near future, though the ones we like are currently sold out. Just wanted to give a big congratulations to actor Mickey Rourke for is Golden Globe win for best actor in the movie The Wrester last night. I have not seen The Wrestler yet, but apparently it’s a pretty good flick. Now why would Vespa Lexington give a congrats to actor Mickey Rourke? It’s because Mickey Rourke rides a Vespa. In fact, in 2007 crazy Mickey got a DUI riding a Vespa in Miami. While we don’t support Mickey riding a Vespa while he is drunk, we do fully support Mickey riding a Vespa.

I really dig a lot of these older Vespa / Piaggio advertisements from the 50’s and 60’s. Actually the first ad we ran for Vespa Lexington was taken from an ad Vespa ran back in the 60’s, “Maybe Your Second Car Shouldn’t Be A Car”. The tag line seems just as relevant today as it did when the ad originally ran. When looking for older Vespa ad’s I typically turn to ebay. You can purchase all sorts of older print ad’s on ebay that run anywhere from $6-$10. We also have a couple really cool books in the shop on the history of Vespa and Piaggio that have a lot of really cool ad’s and images ranging from the 1940’s through today. I will make sure to scan some of those images into a post. Below are a few vintage ad’s I swiped from Ebay this morning.

A couple weeks ago we got our Vespa and Piaggio demo units in and finally got everything prepped and ready to ride.
