I love a good Vespa adventure (check out one of our very first blog posts Vespa X RVCA), and a Vespa adventure on a mission to help stop global warming is even better. Vespa has teamed up with Green Peace, and several musicians to embark on what is known as The Vespa Experiment:

“MUSIC. GREENPEACE. VESPA. STOP GLOBAL WARMING. In the midst of these deeply troubling times, every day people are joining forces to make a real and positive difference in the world. We have reached a critical “tipping” point. Our thoughts, choices and actions impact the world directly every minute of every day. We cannot satiate every impulse, satisfy every craving and at the same time pretend we are working towards world peace or saving the earth. The time to do something is NOW.

THE VESPA EXPERIMENT’S primary mission is to help stop global warming by using the power of music to make people look inwards at themselves and change their behavior. Jason Reeves, Brendan James and Amber Rubarth are teaming up with Greenpeace and leading by example as they trade a tour bus for fuel efficient and environmentally friendly Vespa Scooters, and hotels for campgrounds. For two weeks they will live simply and engage their fans in thought-provoking ways, through music and honest dialog as they seek to change the world together.”

The weather in Lexington has been fantastic, just perfect for scooter riding. It’s Friday night and my wife and I actually just got back from a really fun event in downtown Lexington. The event was put on by our buddies at Bullhorn Will for a really great Kentucky denim label called imogene + willies, at another buddies interior design showroom called Circa. How about all of those shout outs? It was a great night; incredible denim, lots of good people, free bourbon, and a killer venue. I think the highlight of the night was getting to take my wife out for a night on the town on a new Vespa GTS 250 (man I LOVE that ride). Cruising the streets of downtown Lexington on a Vespa with my wife on the back definitely adds a whole lot of FUN to “date night”.

With warm weather finally hitting the Bluegrass, I would hate for you to miss out on all the FUN! Vespa Lexington would like to extend a BIG THANKS to all those that came out to our first cook-out of the year. We were amazed at the number of people that came out. We were also amazed at how full our parking lot was with new scooters, vintage scooters, motorcycles, toy scooters, and good people! It really looks like central Kentucky is going to have one strong scooter scene blossoming. It was awesome to see everyone out here, talking scooters and having a good time. That’s what we want our shop to be all about, central Kentucky’s hub for scooter enthusiast. We took some photos which some of them can be viewed below and on our Flickr account.

Another highlight of the event was a special guest appearance by Lexington’s own scooter celebrity Chad Walker. Beginning May 15, Chad will be riding a pink Aprilia SR 50 scooter (named The Hooter Scooter) from San Francisco to Boston in an effort to raise money for breast cancer research. A couple years back Chad rode a motorcycle from here to Alaska and back, so he is no stranger to long distanced 2 wheel adventures. In addition to making the trek from San Francisco to Boston on a 50cc scooter, Chad plans on attempting to break the Guinness World Record for “Longest Distance Traveled in 24 Hours on a 50cc Scooter.” The current record stands at 732 miles. Walker will need to drive an average speed of 31 miles-per-hour for 24 hours straight if he hopes to reach his 750 mile goal. Vespa Lexington will be cheering Chad on and so should you.
