What a great way to wind down your 4th of July weekend, a long Sunday ride through bourbon country. Our new buddies Mike and Fred (both own SYM RV 250’s) have put together a real fun ride for this coming Sunday (July 5th). Due to the distance of this ride, you need to have at least a 150cc. WHAT: LOCAL SCOOTER RIDE
WHEN: SUNDAY JULY 5TH
TIME: 1:30 P.M.
MEET: STARBUCK’S PARKING LOT BOSTON ROAD
ITINERARY: Upon leaving Starbuck’s we will travel west on Man-O-War Blvd. through Keenland to Old Frankfort Pike. While riding to Midway, Kentucky we will have the opportunity to view many majestic horse farms. Continuing from Midway the group will travel on route 421 to Frankfort, Kentucky where we will enjoy viewing Frankfort’s historic district and Capitol. From Frankfort the group will travel highway 1659 along the Kentucky River to the Woodford Reserve Distillery. (Free lemonade and Bourbon Candy Samples are available at this stop!) The ride will return to Lexington on highway 1659 through Versailles, Kentucky and end up back at Starbuck’s on Boston Road in Lexington. Along the way there will be numerous opportunities to stop for shopping, food, restroom breaks and photo opportunities.

Every Wednesday night during the summer, the Kentucky Theater will be playing Summer Classic Movies for only $4. We thought it would be a lot of fun to get a group together, meet up at Vespa Lexington on Wed night, and ride down to the Kentucky Theater to check out a summer classic. This Wednesday the Kentucky happens to be playing American Graffiti, which has a funny little Vespa wreck scene at the beginning. Maybe if we can get some BIG turnouts to the Kentucky Theater we can persuade them to show Quadrophenia one HOT summer night!

Vespa Lexington is officially signed up to have a scooter posse ride in this years 4th of July Parade through downtown Lexington. It should be a whole lot of fun. The only problem is, we can only have 12 scooters ride in the parade. We do have an official sign up sheet at Vespa Lexington along with a waiver to sign. If your down for riding in the parade (which you should be), swing by Vespa Lexington as soon as possible and sign up. Once we get the list filled, we will determine a time to meet and where that Saturday. For those that don’t ride in the parade, we still encourage you to scoot on over to downtown that day to partake in all the fun 4th of july festivities.

Vespa Lexington would like to thank everyone that came out this past Saturday to the Vespa Lexington cook out. We had a blast (a little hot) and could not believe how many people showed up. I made over 50 burger patties the night before and they were all gone before 1, we had to make a quick trip to the store for more burgers, more hotdogs, and more drinks. Our parking lot was full of people and scooters, it was awesome! Big thanks to everyone, we will definitely be doing another cook out soon. I can’t imagine what it would be like if it worked out where everyone on our list was able to make it out, we would have to make up a couple hundred burgers.
We had JD and Kevin ride all the way down from Louisville to represent the Kentuckiana Scooter Club, thanks guys for making the trip down. Also wanted to thank our buddies Ron and Morgan for helping us on the grill and for taking a bunch of great photos, much appreciated! A few weeks back, Vespa Lexington got the opportunity to provide a new 2009 Vespa LX 50 that was to be auctioned off at the KET Summer Celebration held at the beautiful Donamire Farm. The event was a huge success, raising nearly $200,000 for KET. Our Vespa was one of more than 275 spectacular souvenirs offered in the silent auction.
The winning bidders of our 2009 Vespa LX 50 were the events honorary ringmasters Pearse and Deirdre Lyons. For those who are not familiar with Dr. Pearse Lyons, he is the founder of Kentucky-based multinational biotechnology corporation Alltech. Among many other things, Alltech happens to be the title sponsor of the Alltech/FEI World Equestrian Games coming to Kentucky in 2010.
The week following the auction, Alltech requested that we bring a new Vespa by their headquarters. It was displayed in the foyer during a World Equestrian Games meeting, next to a sign that said “New Cost Saving Initiative“. How cool is that? We were very excited to bring a new Vespa to the Alltech headquarters.
