Off To The Races…….On A Vespa!

Vespa Lexington recently donated the use of several Vespa scooters for an upcoming Keenland commercial. Needless to say I am pretty excited to see the finished product! I am also pretty excited about some Keenland action this spring.

Speaking of Keenland, we definitely plan to organize a big group ride out to the races one upcoming Saturday or Sunday. Who’s down?

Hometown Hero Stoll Vaughan Performing At Natasha’s Cafe This Friday Night

Not your typical Vespa Lexington or scooter related post, but still a worthy post. One of my best friends, the talented singer & song writer Stoll Vaughan will be playing this Friday night at Natasha’s Cafe (Friday March 12th @ 9PM). Lexington is one of his last stops on a long tour and If you don’t have plans I would definitely swing down to Natasha’s to catch the show. If the weather is good, ride your scoot! Stoll promised me that if I wrote this post he would play a song about Vespa Lexington on friday night.

Stoll was born and raised here in Lexington and currently resides in Los Angeles. I am pretty sure his reasoning for moving to LA, was so he could try and impress all the southern ladies by telling them he “lives in LA”. You know, since LA is so hip and cool. In fact one time I heard him tell a girl he was Zac Efron, he then proceeded to sing her a song from High School Musical. Joking aside, Stoll’s music speaks for itself. In the past he has opened for Def Leppard, Urge Overkill, John Mellecamp, John Fogerty, Marty Stuart, and Shooter Jennings. Currently he has provided music for the David Lynch Interview Project, Friday Night lights, and will have a song in an upcoming episode of HBO’s hit show True Blood.

For more info check out StollVaughan.com, and make sure to become a fan of Stoll on his Facebook.

The Organic Coffee Vespa Tour

I love a good Vespa adventure, and I am sure most of you are looking forward to a few Vespa adventures as it warms up. For the second year in a row photographer Clay Enos is currently making his way across the country on his Vespa 300. Last years adventure was called “The Local Time Vespa Tour – Touring back roads on a Vespa, eating locally and sustainably, and of course, making pictures.”, and this years journey is called “The Organic Coffee Vespa Tour”.

“THE ORGANIC COFFEE VESPA TOUR is inspired by the ideas first explored on the Local Time Vespa Tour. That 7,000 mile ride across the United States focused on local economies and sustainable food. Now, my latest Vespa-powered journey will take me through Central America to explore the business of specialty coffee and to meet the people growing some of the finest beans in the world for the Organic Coffee Cartel and others.

My plan is to spend time making photographs of the farmers, families and landscapes that most of us know nothing about or just don’t concern ourselves with when we order our five dollar coffee concoctions. I plan to put a face to that morning cup. The same way tasting a fine wine can connect you to the rolling hills of Burgundy, I believe a great coffee can be equally stimulating to the imagination. I love the idea that a cup of coffee can connect us to far away places and hard working people. I’m excited to creatively test that idea and share my findings.”

Clay has made following his travels easy though steady updates on his website, his Twitter account, his Tumblr, and through his Flickr account. It’s been a lot of fun keeping up with Clay’s travels, if you have a chance you should tag along via those links.

Clay has visited several Vespa shops along the way, and would love to show him some southern hospitality at Vespa Lexington if he swings through Kentucky. Besides, don’t he know I am the Original Coffee Bandit?

Beer & Bowling This Friday Night!

Spring is right around the corner, and this past weekend we had a little taste of what to expect. Seems like quite a few folks were out and about on their scooters this past Saturday and Sunday. I think we had four or five folks scoot over to the shop on Saturday! I think everyone has got some serious Scoot fever.

As a little pre-game, Vespa Lexington would like to invite everyone out this Friday night for a little grub, some bowling, and some scooter talk. It should be a lot of fun and great way to reconnect with some scooter buds! If you can make it we would love to have you, and if the weather permits ride your scoot down. I am sure there are a few folks that would love to take a chilly evening ride after the bowling. Check the details below:

This Friday Night 2/26/2010

Meet Up @ Marikka’s Restaurant & Bar around 6:30. If you have never been to Marikka’s it is a real treat! They have Lexington’s largest beer selection offering over 400 different kinds of brew, and great German grub ( their Pretzels and ChedderWursts are the bomb!).

Following dinner at Marikkas we plan to head next door to Southland Bowling Alley for a little competitive bowling (probably around 7:30-8:00).

Need directions or have any questions please give us a ring at 859.523.8555 or email us at info@vespalexington.com. Look forward to seeing you on Friday night!

You Should Foursquare

Vespa Lexington dabbles in a number of different social media outlets. If you follow our blog then you know we like to play around quite a bit with the Twitter and the Facebook. Recently we started playing around (becoming addicted) to a fairly new social media outlet called Foursquare. The reason I think Foursquare is perfect for scooterist, is because unlike Twitter and Facebook it is mobile social media that uses the GPS in your phone (iPhone, Android, Blackberry, or Palm) to help you find “new ways to explore the city“. The best part about Foursquare is that it makes a game out of exploration allowing you to check in to places, share your experiences with friends, earn points and unlock badges, and if there are spots you regularly visit then you can actually become the Mayor of that place. It’s highly addictive and a ton of fun when you make it a contest.

“foursquare is a cross between a friend-finder, a social city-guide and a game that rewards you for doing interesting things. We aim to build things to not only help you keep up with the places your friends go, but that encourage you to discover new places and challenge you to explore your neighborhood in new ways”

“We’ll help you meet up with your friends and let you earn points and unlock badges for discovering new places, doing new things, and meeting new people.”

I think Foursquare is going to blow up. It’s such a easy and fun way for all you scooterist to connect, explore, and have fun while out and about. Lets face it, once the warm weather hits your going to be mobile. It’s also a great way to meet up with other scooterist and shops when visiting other cities.

It’s super easy to use and it’s a breeze to get signed up. Just follow the links below to get started and if you live in another state or city, make sure to list and review your local scooter shops. Also make sure to friend request Michael and myself (links to our pages are below as well) and leave some good tips for Vespa Lexington (a link to the shop page is below too). Trust me, your going to enjoy Foursquare!

2010 Dealer Expo

This past weekend Michael and Josh “Crowbar” Fightmaster attended the 2010 International Powersports Dealer Expo in Indianapolis. For those that are not familiar with the Dealer Expo, it’s one of the largest Powersports trade-shows in the world. Michael took quite a few photographs which you can check out on the Vespa Lexington Flickr account by clicking here.

Looks like we might be adding a few new brands to the Vespa Lexington line up this year!
